TanSAO is a NGO created to provide a varied number of services for young people and their families in Tanzania. Currently our main focus is in serving as a resource center to assist secondary school students in finding, preparing for, and acquiring admission to top worldwide. We also work with them to identify and apply for financial aid when needed. The organization’s resource center provides free access to university materials and information, as well as assists students with the registration for SAT, SAT Subject, TOEFL and ACT exams. Once registered for the exams through the organization, students are then provided with free practice exam materials, as well as access to exam preparation courses, which focus on English grammar and writing skills.
Mikael Aweda, Executive Director of Counseling, (second from right) and his wife Elinami (far right) are the inspritation behind the formation of TanSAO. Having recieved a private scholarship to attend the University of Dar es Salaam, Mikael is very aware of the need for and potential of TanSAO's work in Tanzania. Daryl Rustad (second from left) is the Director of Counseling for TanSAO. He has been working for the International School of Tanganyika since 2002 as the University and Career Counselor. He and his wife, Cheryl have lived in Tanzania since 1998 and have prepared and advised more than 1000 students in finding university and financial aid opportunities overseas and nationally. Meg Meiners, Assistant Director of Counseling, (far left), has been living in Tanzania since 2005. She was born and raised in Kenya, has worked as a History teacher and advisor to students at Haven of Peace Academy for the last 4 years and is now broadening her horizons to work with more students from more schools here in Dar. She is fluent in Kiswahili and loves working with young people especially in an educational setting.
